It’s an alarming reality that takes many women by surprise. According to a study done by the University of St. Andrews and Edinburgh University in Scotland, by the age of thirty, 90 (YES NINETY!!) percent of a woman’s eggs are already gone. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here
The study went on to say that by age 40, only a measly three percent of a woman’s eggs remain. The main point of the study was to point out this fact and to remind women not to wait until it’s too late to have children. In fact, according to the results of this study, the sooner, the better!
For years, women have known that their fertility declines with age, beginning in their late twenties. However, this study is so unique because it actually puts a number to what we already thought, and it shows that the decline is very, very different than what we originally thought.
The decline happens much more rapidly and much more dramatically than we previously thought, and it is quite alarming to read! The fact that by age 30, ninety percent of eggs are already gone, is a definite surprise for most of us to read!
Not only does the number of eggs decrease as we age, but the quality of the eggs decreases with time as well. The body uses up the best quality eggs first too, so what remains might not be the best quality eggs. These lower quality eggs could lead to birth defects, and difficulty conceiving.
Women who have more pregnancies are often fertile for longer, and some women are just born with more eggs than others. There is no sure way to tell just HOW long a particular woman will be able to conceive. We just need to keep in mind that our time is short, and women are cautioned not to put off trying to conceive until it is too late.
Of course there is no real way to prolong fertility, but there are a few things that women can do to help their chances of conceiving a healthy baby. Women should make sure to avoid lifestyle factors that could hurt their fertility, such as smoking, drugs, and alcohol.
Also, staying in shape, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating a healthy diet can also go a long way towards making conception easier. The experts behind this study are urging women not to put off childbirth until it is too late. Now, this is not to encourage women to have children before they are ready, but just to serve as a reminder that we are not fertile for as long as we often think we are.
