How’s your marriage?

Having one kid definitely changes your marriage or relationship, no doubt about it. Take into consideration that having another kid will change your relationship even more. If you already have an unhappy or unsteady marriage, having another baby might push your relationship over the edge. Having a baby is not a “fix all” for an unhealthy relationship, so keep that in mind.

How’s your other child?

Another important thing to consider is how things are with your other child. Having another child will literally double your responsibilities. If it has been a long time since you had a baby, you might not have considered just how much work a new baby is, or you might have forgotten.

Diapers, bottles, midnight feedings, all of the etc.. that comes along with a new baby. Also remember that your other child will still have needs that need to be met, so make sure that you consider everything before you have another baby.

How’s your finances?

Did you know that experts say that the average cost of raising a baby to age 17 is more than $225,000?? That’s a lot of cash, and even more cash if you have more than one child!

Don’t forget how your income might be impacted if you have maternity or paternity leave to consider, and whether or not you are going to be staying home for awhile. The financial aspect is definitely something to consider when you are trying to decide whether or not to have another baby.

How’s your home?

Don’t forget that babies take up a LOT of space. Do you have enough room in your home for a baby and all of the goodies that come along with one? Cribs and swings and bouncy seats and jumpers, etc.. can really take up a lot of space, not to mention toys!

It’s easy for a baby to share a bedroom with parents or another sibling when they are small, but as they get bigger, they take up much more room! Don’t forget to check how much room you have in your car as well! Babies can really take a toll on many areas of your life, so make sure you consider it carefully before you take the plunge!
