Are you Suffering from Morning Sickness?

A shocking 75% of pregnant women will experience morning sickness, what’s worse is about 50% of those will experience it throughout the day. (Unfortunately I was part of that 50% when I was pregnant.) These numbers are astounding and quite hard to think about in reality. Do these women know there are ways to get treated for this problem? Ditch the old wives’ tales, drinking a glass of water every morning, or eating a cracker before you get out of bed will not help you. I tried. Talk to your doctor for what he or she thinks will work best for the circumstances. There are medications out there and your doctor can tell you if it is right for you. There is also one over the counter treatment that you can try prior to speaking to your doctor.

Preggie Pops

Preggie Pops by Three Lollies are available in a sucker form or a cough drop or hard candy form. I used these- it worked wonders. I threw up everything imaginable, even water and crackers, and Phenergan (a prescription medication for vomiting and nausea).

Mommy’s Bliss Morning Sickness Capsules

Mommy’s Bliss Morning Sickness Capsules are sized like a Tylenol would be, easy to swallow and you can get 60 for only $9!

B-Natal morning sickness lozenges

B-Natal Morning Sickness Lozenges are similar to a hard candy or a cough drop. Sour Apple flavored and the reviews are glowing!

Prescription options

If all else fails you need to speak with your doctor about your morning sickness. There are options there as well, but most doctors will have you try non-drug remedies first. Such as listed above. However, a few of the prescriptions that you can take for nausea while pregnant are:

Compazine

Tigan

Phenergan

Zofran

Hyperemesis gravidarum

For those of you that are like I was with mine – you may get diagnosed with a condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum. This is not as uncommon in pregnant women as I thought it was. This means the female in question cannot hold down anything, at all. You will get admitted to the hospital for the doctor to run fluids via intravenous or IV as most people call it. This is usually a last resort or if the doctor realizes you are dehydrated and need medical attention immediately.

Morning sickness does subside a bit when you hit about the 12 week mark, the beginning of your second trimester. It can last throughout the pregnancy but it is rare for it to be as severe as it is the first trimester.
