California Couple Conceives Identical Triplets

Triple blessing

It’s a very rare triple blessing holiday season for one California couple. The Sacramento Bee reports that Hannah and Tom Hepner of Quincy, California recently welcomed super rare identical triplets into the world, and they were conceived naturally! Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

Little Abby, Brin and Laurel Hepner were born on November 22, and are doing great. Abby weighed 3 pounds, 2 ounces; Brin 3 pounds, 11 ounces; and Laurel 4 pounds, and they are hanging out at the hospital until they get a little bigger and stronger and can maintain their body temperatures. Doctors say they are just fine and will be home very soon!

What are the odds?

It’s exceptionally rare for identical triplets to be conceived naturally, but just how rare is it? Dr. William Gilbert, director of Sutter Women’s Services, says the odds of producing identical triplets without fertility drugs range from 1-in-1-million to 1-in-100-million. The doctor also says that the extreme rarity of these cases makes it harder to come up with statistics, but that identical triplets conceived naturally are extremely rare.

Experts estimate that over 35 percent of twin births and more than 78 percent of triplet or higher births are the result of in vitro fertilization, and don’t usually occur naturally. It is very rare that these triplets were conceived naturally, and even more rare that they were all born healthy and weighing as much as they did. They are all very lucky to be so healthy and strong!

All worth it

Tom Hepner says that his wife, Hannah, 29 has been a real champ throughout her entire pregnancy, and that she “sailed right through” everything! Hannah Hepner says that she realizes how rare her three little gifts are, but that they are individuals to her,and she can’t help but be excited as to what the future holds!

Although the girls’ birth was extraordinarily rare, it also “loses its relevance when you are holding them. It did happen and they are here. We understand that they are going to be individuals,” she added, “We look forward to finding out who those individuals are and helping them along the way.”

What a huge triple blessing for this California family! We are sure that there will be many sleepless nights and diaper changes along the way, but this family is making history and quite literally have a “one in a million” story to tell their children when they ask about their birth story!
