Difficulties Getting Pregnant with Another Baby

Difficulties Getting Pregnant with Another Baby

Fertility Issues

Fertility issues are common. In some instances, couples that have successfully had a baby face troubles and are unable to get pregnant again. This can be very surprising and rudely shocking to couples because they successfully did it once and it is taken for granted that they should be able to do it again with ease. However, sometimes it just does not happen. This condition is called ‘secondary infertility’ because couples are able to get pregnant once but not again. Infertility

Secondary infertility is not all that uncommon. A number of cases keep coming forward from time to time. The reasons behind this are many. One very common and very obvious reason is age. Women are the most fertile in their twenties and their fertility keeps declining after they hit the age of twenty nine.

This decline continues until age thirty five and after that there is a significant drop in fertility. It may happen that when you got pregnant for the first time you were in your twenties and you are trying for your second baby in your thirties or forties.

Under these circumstances you may not be able to conceive again because of declining fertility. Once you reach the age of forty-five, it is extremely rare to get pregnant by natural means. You will need some type of fertility treatment or the other to aid your pregnancy. Men, on the other hand, are fertile throughout their lives but remember that the quality and the count of the sperm decline with age. Thus, age is a factor for both partners.

Few physical conditions

There are a few physical conditions that can also cause secondary infertility. Abdominal adhesions may develop or there may be a tubal blockage of some kind. In both cases, fertility is affected and both these cases can occur after one successful pregnancy. There are also conditions such as endometriosis that mostly occurs after one successful pregnancy. These are the physical problems that can make it very difficult for you to get pregnant again.

Health and lifestyle

More reasons relate to health and lifestyle. You may develop unhealthy habits such as smoking, alcohol abuse, drinking too much caffeine, and so on. This can affect your fertility. Also, you may gain a lot of weight after your first pregnancy and this can interrupt with your menstrual cycle.

If you lose too much weight too, your fertility may be affected. Thus, you should take care of your health even after having a baby. You should stay fit and abstain from tobacco, alcohol, and drugs even after having a baby. They will ruin your chances of getting pregnant again and they will interfere with your health significantly.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)

Lastly, the reason why you are not able to get pregnant the second time around may be an STD or an infection that you acquired after your first successful pregnancy. STDs include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes, and so on. Infections include PID or pelvic inflammatory disease in women.

In men, epididymitis can cause infertility. Most of these causes can be treated and overcome. You should talk to your doctor if you are not able to have another baby. She will be able to tell you the reason and what you must do in order to get pregnant again.
