Different Fertility Drug Options Available

Infertility in both men and women has become a very serious problem of the modern age, and judging by the amount of toxins and stress we are exposed to on a daily basis, it’s no wonder that more and more couples have difficulties trying to conceive. There are, however, many ways in which you can treat your infertility, ranging from a change in lifestyle, to taking supplements or even prescription drugs. Most fertility drugs are designed to treat infertility issues in women, and only very few address male infertility. Fertility drugs, which remain the main way of treating infertility in women, are either taken orally or injected, and stimulate the release of hormones that regulate ovulation. Because a complete infertility treatment isn’t exactly inexpensive, couples choose to buy discount fertility drugs. Always make sure though, that the drugs you buy are approved by the FDA.

The top 5 most prescribed fertility drugs

Chorionic Gonadotropin

The action of this drug is almost the same as that of Luteinizing hormone, which is produced by the pituitary gland, triggering ovulation. In males, this drug stimulates the production of hormones such as testosterone. This drug should only be administered under the supervision of a doctor, since misuse can lead to serious problems. Other names under which this drug is sold are: Chorex, Novarel, Ovidrel, Pregnyl and Profasi.

Clomiphene Citrate

In women it stimulates the production and release of hormones which cause ovulation. It is used to trigger or regulate ovulation, as well as to stimulate the production of multiple eggs (for use with IVF for instance). In men, clomiphene citrate may be used to treat low sperm count. Names under which this drug is marketed are Clomid, Serophene and Milophene.

Menotropin

This drug was designed to stimulate the production of multiple follicles by the ovaries, thus making the woman more fertile. There are many side-effects tied to the use of this drug, and self-medication is strictly forbidden. A high incidence of multiple births was recorded among women who used this drug. Menotropin can be found in medications like Menopur, Menogon, Repronex, Pergonal and Humegon.

Urofollitropin

This is a purified form of the follicle-stimulating hormone, which is very important in the development of follicles. Urofollitropin is used to treat women who don’t produce enough FSH to support the follicles to mature. Just like Menotropin, the intake of this drug can cause multiple pregnancies. It is marketed under names like Fertinex, Fostimon or Bravelle.

Progesterone

Progesterone is one of the hormones that is especially important in maintaining a pregnancy. It also plays an important role for the regulation of ovulation. Progesterone can be either found under this exact name, or as a component of medications like Crinone.

Discount fertility drugs can be found in pharmacies and online, but they should only be taken at the prescription of a doctor, since they all contain hormones which can interfere with the way your body works, and any misuse can have severe consequences.
