Fertility and Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a tough thing to deal with in and of itself, causing discomfort and pain to patients that suffer from it. However, endometriosis can sometimes cause something even tougher to deal with: infertility. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

It is suspected that around 40% of women who are diagnosed with endometriosis will at some point develop infertility. That makes dealing with the disease even tougher, the fact that the patients are always afraid that they might not be able to have children someday.

Endometrosis-Caused Infertility

The reasons for endometrosis-caused infertility are still being researched, but there is a lot we know so far. There is a lot of pelvic scarring that takes place in women who have endometriosis, and that can definitely be a factor in infertility. This scarring can also lead to the fallopian tubes and the ovaries being moved a bit out of place. This can cause the eggs to have difficulty being transferred to the Fallopian tubes, which can cause infertility.

Knowing Endometriosis

Endometriosis is also commonly known to cause the body to over produce certain hormones, such as prostaglandins. Those hormones are some of the most important for conception, and if there is an excess of them, then the body might have a hard time conceiving. The more severe the case of endometriosis, of course, the more likely it is that it will result in infertility.

Sometimes IVF can be extremely effective in helping women who have endometriosis get pregnant. There is also research to show that if you can get pregnant while you have endometriosis, your symptoms will improve during pregnancy and might even continue to improve after you give birth!

Consult your Doctor

The fact is that not all women who have endometriosis will end up with fertility problems. In fact the odds are in your favor that you still will be able to have a baby. Talk with your doctor if this is a concern for you to find out ways to increase your odds of getting pregnant.
