The first month of pregnancy is when the very basic building blocks start to form into place. During the first month, the placenta begins to develop, and so does the amniotic sac. The amniotic sac is the bag of fluid that the baby will grow and develop in during its time in the womb.
During your first month, your baby looks sort of like a bean, with dark spots where its eyes will be. Your baby’s heart is also now beating at a steady rhythm. At the end of the first month, your baby is around the size of a grain of rice.
During the second month of pregnancy, your baby’s head takes up one third of its total size! Tiny little stubs are forming on your baby’s sides that will become the arms and legs. Little ear spots are forming as well, although at this point they just look like little tiny dots.
Month two is also the month that the embryo begins to move, although mommy will not be able to feel it for a long time! At this point, your baby also has little webbed hands and feet where fingers and toes will be forming soon. There are many things happening during your second month of pregnancy, and your first trimester as a whole.
Can you believe that your baby is fully formed by the end of the third month? During the third month, your baby can even begin to open and close its fists as well as its mouth. Tiny little buds are forming inside the baby’s mouth that will someday become teeth.
Something that most people don’t know about the third month? Your baby’s reproductive organs are formed by now, but almost impossible to distinguish through an ultrasound at this point. At the end of the third month, your baby weighs around one ounce.
Also, by the end of your third month of pregnancy, your baby’s head now takes up around half of it’s body! Wow, what a long way your baby has come, but there is still much more work to be done, and much more growing to be done as well!
