Fraternal twins and identical twins both occur when a mother gives birth to two babies at once. However, the way that they are conceived is quite different. In a typical woman, one egg will be released every month. Sperm will then attempt to fertilize the egg when it is released into the uterus. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

With fraternal twins, however, more than one egg is released. When these eggs become fertilized, two babies will develop in the womb instead of one. With identical twins only one egg is fertilized. However, the eggs will then split in two and two babies will be developed.

Identical twins share the same genetic makeup. This usually means that they will look the same and have many of the same characteristics. This is not the case with fraternal twins. In fact, they can look differently from one another.

Although it is rare, it is even possible for fraternal twins to have two different dads. This is not the case with identical twins. There are also ways to increase the chances that a woman has of becoming pregnant with fraternal twins. Some twins run in families. Other women who are older or have used fertility treatments can also be at a greater chance of having fraternal twins. Nothing can increase the chances of identical twins being born.
