Hormones in Fertility Drugs

If you are currently taking or thinking about taking fertility drugs, you might be wondering what kinds of hormones fertility drugs contain. Well, first of all you must know how fertility drugs work. Fertility drugs act like natural hormones FSH and LH to help you to ovulate like normally. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

The hormones that normally regulate ovulation in the body are GnRH (Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), an LH (Lutenizing Hormone). Anytime that there is a problem or imbalance with any of these hormones, there can be a problem with ovulation.

GnRH

GnRH is also known as Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone. It is essential in fertility because it stimulates the pituitary glands to produce LH and FSH. In fertility drugs, GnRH is given as an injection. It is usually given when Clomid or other oral medications have not worked well. It is used to replace GnRH in men and women who do not have or make enough of it on their own.

FSH

FSH is the Follicle Stimulating Hormone. FSH is present in men and woman, and comes from the pituitary gland. It promotes the growth of sperm in men and the growth of eggs in women. If you have an elevated level of FSH, it is not a good thing. An elevated level of FSH can be a sign that your reserve of eggs that your body naturally produces is low.

Doctors check FSH levels using a simple blood test and the average is around a 10. A number around 25 will almost always indicate some sort of fertility problem. In many cases, the only possible treatment for elevated FSH levels is IVF combined with donor eggs, which is both a very expensive and invasive treatment method.

LH

Luteinizing Hormone, or LH, is another hormone secreted by the pituitary gland. It is responsible for helping the egg mature and develop. The surge of LH that is released right before you ovulate is what releases the egg from the ovary and it is what at-home ovulation kits are able to predict. An LH test is a simple blood test that measures the levels of LH that are in your bloodstream. These tests can be used to tell when you are ovulating for IVF or other purposes, but it can also be used to help diagnose other fertility problems.

These three hormones are the most important in fertility drugs, since they are the most important ones found in your body naturally. Your doctor might want to test your levels of some or all of these hormones to help determine your fertility issues and their cause.
