6-12 days past ovulation (DPO)

One of the first signs is implantation bleeding, which sometimes occurs when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall. This can occur within 6-12 days of conception, although a lot of times women may think that the implantation bleeding is actually their period. This is the reason that many women do not recognize implantation bleeding as a pregnancy symptom.

Two weeks after conception

At around two weeks after conception, this is where a lot of the other signs of pregnancy start being noticeable. Fatigue usually begins to set in around the two week mark, since the body is so busy releasing hormones and working hard on growing a baby. Many women may think they are just overdoing it at work or at home (who doesn’t work too hard these days?), or may think they are coming down with a cold, and just feeling a little bit under the weather.

This fatigue may very well be one of the first signs of pregnancy. Also in the first few weeks after conception, the woman might notice other symptoms such as mild cramping, bloating, backaches, or breast tenderness and soreness. However, these symptoms are often attributed to PMS or an upcoming period, so sometimes they are not seen as pregnancy symptoms right off the bat!

Three to four weeks after conception

At around three to four weeks after conception, more obvious pregnancy symptoms should start to show up. The area around a woman’s nipples should be getting darker and increasing in size. She might be experiencing some nausea (which could be morning sickness) or queasiness.

Her sense of smell might begin to be altered, and she could be having aversions to some foods or smells. Headaches, dizziness or even fainting spells might occur at around this time, due to increased blood circulation and increasing hormones. She might even begin to gain a little weight, and her bras might start to become a bit tighter.

Somewhere around this time, the telltale missed period should show up (or, not show up!), and it should begin to become a bit more obvious that a woman could be pregnant. Once the time for her to start her period has come and gone, a woman should be able to get a accurate result from an at home pregnancy test.
