Seeing Blue

Many couples, for whatever reason, decide that there is nothing they want more than getting pregnant with a baby boy. Whether they already have a girl at home, or just simply want a son, many couples are praying for blue when they are trying to conceive. However, is there really anything you can do to boost your chances of having one sex of baby over another? Some experts say there is, and the key to a son or daughter could all be in what you eat. It’s All in What you eat

According to many different sources, including the Shettles Method of Gender Determination, having a baby boy is as easy as what you eat. Since baby boy sperm prefer an alkaline environment, women who want to conceive a boy should eat foods that raise the alkalinity of the body. In other words, if you want to have a boy, eat like a man! A diet for having a baby boy should include lots of “man foods” like salty snacks, red meats, and soda. Other foods that some say can increase the likelihood of having a baby boy are yams, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, pears, bananas and kiwi.

What else can you do?

Luckily, there is more you can do to increase your chances of having a baby boy besides just switching your diet. When you are having sex to conceive, you should choose positions that allow for deeper penetration when you are trying to conceive a baby boy. This will deposit the sperm closer to the entrance of the uterus, where the environment is more alkaline and less acidic. Some good positions for deeper penetration include standing sex and sex on all fours (“doggystyle”).

Time it right

According to the Dr. Shettles method, if you want to conceive a baby boy, you should try to have sex as close as possible to the day of ovulation. Male sperm swim faster than female sperm so having sex as close as possible to ovulation will give the male sperm a better chance of being fertilized. Women should also try to have an orgasm during sex, since this is one of the many things that can create an alkaline environment for the vagina, making it better for male sperm.

High Tech Options

If you are really serious about choosing the gender of your baby, there are more high tech options available, like sperm sorting or PGD, which is done at a fertility clinic and offers pretty high success rates. These things do cost a lot of money though, so take that into consideration before you decide to try these methods. They do offer pretty high success rates, with sperm sorting being around 91 percent accurate for a girl, and 76 percent accurate for a boy. PGD, which is used in conjunction with IVF, is much more accurate, but also much more expensive as well.
