Low Sperm Count on the Rise

Low Sperm Count on the Rise

Low sperm count is the term used when a man’s semen contains fewer sperm than normal. A sperm count is considered low if a man has fewer than 15 MILLION sperm per milliliter of semen. 15 million might sound like a whole lot, but it really isn’t when it comes to sperm.  Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

Recent research has shown that the average male’s reproductive health is in sharp decline, and the number of men with low sperm count is on the rise. The research suggests that between 1989 and 2005, the average man’s sperm count has decreased by one third, or thirty three percent.

That is a huge number! Read on to find out some reasons why men’s sperm count might be decreasing.

More men are eating poor diets

Diet can be one of the leading causes of low sperm count. Eating a diet that is high in saturated fat, like more and more men are doing, can cause a low sperm count. Diet is a very important aspect of making sure that sperm count is healthy.

More men are making poor lifestyle choices

More and more men are making poor lifestyle choices that can lead to low sperm count. Some of these lifestyle choices include smoking cigarettes, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and using illegal drugs. All of those choices can lead to lower sperm count.

More men are overweight

Another contributing factor to the rise of low sperm counts in men is that more and more men are overweight. Being at an unhealthy body weight can also really decrease sperm count and make it harder to get pregnant.

More men are stressed

Stress is so prevalent in our society today, that almost everyone is affected by it somehow. Stress can have a negative effect on male fertility, and can contribute to low sperm count. Try to reduce stress to improve all aspects of your life, including fertility.

More men have medical conditions

More now than ever, men are suffering from a wide variety of medical conditions that can make it harder to conceive and lead to reduce sperm counts. One of the most common conditions that contribute to low sperm count are varicoceles.

Varicoceles are swelled, inflamed veins in the testicles, and they are one of the most common causes of male infertility. Other conditions that can lead to low sperm count include tumors, infections, and hormone imbalances. Sometimes certain medications can also contribute to low sperm count.
