Major Male Infertility Problems

Major Male Infertility Problems

There are many reasons for male fertility problems, but most of them are related to a decrease in sperm count, sperm quality, or sperm movement. When a man has been actively trying to father a child for one year, using well timed, and unprotected sex, without getting a woman pregnant, that is defined as infertility. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

This is when a man (and woman) should begin to be tested for fertility problems and also try alternative fertility methods. Research shows that male infertility accounts for about 40% of all fertility problems in couples, while 40% of problems are female related, and the remaining 20% of fertility problems are associated with a combination of both male and female problems.

The male infertility problems usually breaks down into one of three categories: Low sperm count, poor sperm quality, or poor sperm mobility. The semen analysis test that is used to determine which of these problems (or which combination of these problems) is present is easy and usually inexpensive. For this reason, it should be performed before starting to explore female infertility issues, since those treatments are often more costly and invasive.

Low Sperm Count

This is the leading cause of male infertility. Low sperm count can be attributed to many different things, and there are some easy, natural things that you can do to try to improve sperm count on your own before considering medical treatments. Quitting smoking, while a benefit to health in general, can really help improve sperm count, since smoking can decrease sperm count.

Also make sure that your man is not wearing underwear that are too tight or spending too much time in a hot tub, Jacuzzi, or hot bath. These things can seriously diminish sperm count as well. Men also need to make sure to get enough exercise, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce stress as much as possible. But, make sure he doesn’t exercise too much or too vigorously, since that can hurt sperm count as well.

Poor Sperm Mobility

Another common issue with male infertility is poor sperm mobility. This is exactly what it sounds like, in that the sperm have a hard time making it to the uterus, and make it harder to get pregnant. Probably the easiest and quickest way to improve sperm mobility is to change your guy’s diet.

There are certain proteins that can improve sperm mobility if you add them into your man’s diet (L-Cartinine is one of these). Also make sure that your man is getting enough Vitamin E, Zinc, and selenium, since these are shown to improve sperm mobility. Vitamin C can also help to make sperm move faster!

Poor Sperm Quality

If your man’s sperm are shown to be misshaped, or of poor quality, there are a few things that you can do. There are lots of foods that you can eat that contain important vitamins and minerals, which are known to improve sperm quality.

Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin E, Lycopene and L-Arginine are all ones to look for in the foods your guy chooses. Make sure that he is also drinking enough water (about 8 glasses per day) and that he is exercising regularly (but not overdoing it!). Your doctor can help recommend other courses of treatment if you are faced with abnormal sperm quality.
