If you need a helping hand along the way, fertility treatment options are now a common place thing in today’s society. However, not everyone thinks that technology should have a place in family planning and conception. Many people think that getting pregnant should be a natural thing that happens with no outside interference.

Whether it is religious beliefs or just a personal preference, this natural family planning belief is held by many people in today’s society. Today we are going to discuss the options that families have when they choose to use natural family planning, and the tools that are available for them.

The calendar

Perhaps the best, and definitely the cheapest, tool for natural family planning is nothing more than a good old calender! By using the calender to chart and track your cycles, you can figure out when you are ovulating. If you want to avoid getting pregnant, you simply avoid sex during ovulation.

If you decide you are ready to have a baby, just try to plan sex around the time when you are ovulating, for the best chance of getting pregnant. This simple (and free!) method of tracking ovulation is great for women who have regular monthly cycles, but might not work so well for women who have irregular periods.

Basal body temperature

By charting basal body temperature with a special thermometer, women who use natural family planning methods can be more aware of just when they are ovulating. Basal body temperature usually spikes right before ovulation, so by taking their temperatures each day at the same time (before getting out of bed), women can chart those temperatures and keep track of when that spike occurs. This is a great way to know when you are ovulating, and the only associated cost is the basal thermometer!

Ovulation predictor kits

Ovulation Predictor Kits can work great for women who are practicing natural family planning in addition to those who are trying to conceive. Ovulation Predictor Kits work much like home pregnancy tests, and can give a woman a clearer idea of when she is ovulating. If she wishes to get pregnant, she should have sex when the Ovulation Predictor Kit says she is ovulating, and if she wants to avoid getting pregnant, she can simply avoid sex during that time.

Ovulation software

Yes, you read that right! There are now ovulation software programs on the market to help women determine when they are (and are not!) most fertile. Some of the most popular programs are Fertility Friend, and Femta. These software programs can give women a detailed look at their cycles, showing them their fertile and non fertile days, along with a plethora of other information about their bodies.
