Less than 5% of women have consecutive miscarriages. Less than 1% have three or more consecutively. A miscarriage is a spontaneous loss of a fetus prior to week 20 that is usually caused because the baby is not developing properly.
If you have had multiple miscarriages and would like to try to conceive again you may need to speak with your doctor about running tests to find out what is causing the multiple miscarriages prior to attempting to conceive. This can be something as simple as blood work or an ultrasound.
You may have a hard time recovering from the loss and it’s perfectly understandable. However, when you are ready, know that there are ways to get pregnant after pregnancy loss. If this is your first miscarriage and you would like to try again, first step back and take a few deep breaths, you need to take care of your body before you can conceive again. Have you had a D & C (dilation and curettage) from your previous miscarriage? Have you started a new prenatal vitamin to get yourself ready for a baby? Are you healthy physically and emotionally? If you are still trying to cope with your loss, it is okay to wait a little longer to try to conceive again. You cannot push yourself into something you are not emotionally ready for.
However, if it is that time again, you will know. Your mind and heart will be open to the thought of another child. Once pregnant it is not a good idea to stress over everything. The cause of most miscarriages is due to abnormalities in the child, not something the parent has done. This is uncontrollable to anyone else.
Allowing yourself to become stressed over this baby can, in turn, put the baby under pressure. This can cause many more issues with you and the baby.
Try to allow yourself to enjoy the fact that you are pregnant again. Watch for the normal signs of pregnancy; sore breasts, nausea, exhaustion, gassy feelings and eventually that first kick. Once you have hit your second trimester you are almost in the clear. It is very rare for a miscarriage to occur in the second and third trimesters.
