What do I need Robitussin?

Guaifenesin is the main ingredient in Robitussin cough syrup. This particular ingredient can aid in fertility because it improves the quality of a woman’s cervical mucus. A woman needs fertile cervical mucus in order to help transport sperm from the vagina to the uterus.

The unfortunate truth is that sperm are going to be unable to survive without fertile cervical mucus. Furthermore, thick cervical mucus can actually block sperm from being able to get past the vagina and to the uterus in order to fertilize the egg.

Interestingly enough, thickening the cervical mucus is actually how some hormonal birth control prevents pregnancy from occurring.

What kind of Robitussin should be used?

You are going to want to use the plain Robitussin with no letters after the name. The active ingredient in the plain Robitussin is guaifenesin and it contains about 100 mg of it per teaspoon.

It is extremely important that you avoid Robitussin (or any cough syrup) that contains a decongestant like Robitussin-D. Decongestants may sometimes dry up the cervical mucus. There are also some theories that Robitussin DM may be linked to birth defects and cleft palate.

Do you have to use the brand Robitussin?

No, there is no reason why you have to use the brand name Robitussin. It is just one of the more common brand names of cough syrup that contains the active ingredient guaifenesin. You can use any alternative couch syrup or generic cough syrup as long as guaifenesin is the active ingredient.

What is the recommended dose of Robitussin?

An individual can take two teaspoons (200 mg) up to three times a day. If this dosage does not help with your cervical mucus, an individual can take as many as four teaspoons (400 mg) four times per day. Keep in mind, each dose of this medication should be taken with a full 8oz glass of water.

You should also make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. This is because one needs to be well hydrated with plenty of fluids in order to produce the necessary mucus to conceive a child.

Will it help with little to no mucus?

Unfortunately, taking Robitussin is not going to help if your body has little to no mucus. Guaifenesin is not able to produce cervical mucus; it is only able to thin the mucus that is already there. An individual would need to figure out why their body is not producing mucus, before they could use this method to thin it.

When do I take Robitussin?

The best time for a woman to take Robitussin is going to be about five days before she is expected to ovulate as well as the date of ovulation. If you are using an ovulation predictor kit, you are going to want to continue to take the cough syrup for two to three days after you have had a positive on the kit. There is no guarantee that this method will work, but it has worked well for many women.
