Different Stages of Pregnancy

A woman’s body goes through many changes during pregnancy. Luckily, those changes don’t all happen overnight. The changes of pregnancy happen gradually, little by little. The stages of pregnancy are grouped into three trimesters, and the 40 weeks of pregnancy are divided up between them. Today we are going to talk about what happens during each of the three stages. First trimester

The first trimester is when all the pregnancy magic begins to take place. In fact, the first trimester is probably where the most changes occur in the body. The hormones that enter your body during the first few weeks of pregnancy provoke changes in every single system of your body, from your head to your feet!

The first trimester (weeks 1-12) is usually a period where you don’t feel so hot. There are a lot of changes taking place in your body, and you will feel it. The first trimester is when the morning sickness hits, along with fatigue, cramps, breast tenderness, mood swings and headaches, among other symptoms.

Sounds fun, doesn’t it?? However, the first trimester usually feels like the shortest, since you don’t know you are pregnant until usually somewhere around the 4th to 6th week. That is probably a good thing, since the first trimester can be an uncomfortable one.

Second trimester

The second trimester usually brings a welcome end to morning sickness and fatigue, making it one of the best times in most women’s pregnancies. The second trimester is also usually a good one, since this is usually where you are able to feel your baby move, and you will start to show.

During the second trimester is also when you can find out if your baby is a boy or a girl, if that is something you want to know. Paired with the increase of energy and end of morning sickness, it’s no wonder that most women consider the second trimester the most peaceful, and at the same time, exciting, stage of pregnancy!

Third trimester

Now this is when it really gets interesting! The third trimester is the end of the line for your pregnancy, and you will notice lots of little changes, and some big ones. As your baby gets bigger, he or she will begin to take up more and more of the space in your belly.

This, my friends, will leave you more and more uncomfortable. You will find that moving around is getting tougher by the day, and forget tying your own shoes! You will feel out of breath much more often, and prepare to spend a lot of your time in the bathroom as your bladder grows increasingly cramped.

Sleeping will also become something of a chore. Your baby will continue to move around a lot, but at the end of your pregnancy, it is common for your baby to run out of room, and just kind of hang out in there waiting to be introduced to the world. Know that while your third trimester generally feels like it takes forever to get through, and it is one of the most uncomfortable, that it also means that it is almost time to welcome your new bundle of joy!
