It’s getting too stressful

If you feel like trying to conceive is getting too stressful, it might be time to take a break. If your fertility journey is creeping into and causing problems with your relationship, your family life, your work life, your friendships, etc.. you should consider taking a break. If your fertility worries are causing problems with your sleep pattern or eating habits, it might be time to take a break as well.

You are dealing with loss

If you have recently dealt with a miscarriage or a failed IVF cycle, you might want to consider taking a break. Many women want to “push on” and keep trying after experiencing loss, but that is not always the best option. Your body needs time to heal and get back to normal after a loss, and so does your mind and emotions. You will need time to deal with your loss on your own and with your partner. So, if you have recently been through a loss of some type, you might benefit from a break.

Your relationship is suffering

It’s no secret that fertility treatments can really take a toll on a marriage or relationship. It’s hard to go through something so stressful and not take it out on the other person. There are so many different stressors, including financial and medical worries, that go along with fertility treatments. If you are feeling like trying to get pregnant is a chore, or you don’t really remember why you wanted to have a baby in the first place, you might want to consider taking a step back.

You need to make a big choice

Another time to consider taking a big break from trying to conceive is when you need to make an important decision. Are you considering a big move or a career change? Are you trying to go back to school, get a divorce, or buy a house? This might be a time to break from fertility treatments, since you will be going through a lot of stress. If you are trying to decide whether or not you can afford to continue pursuing fertility treatments, or are facing another decision, like whether or not to use donor egg or sperm, it might be a good idea to take a break for a little while and get all your ducks in a row.
