Tube Reversal or In Vitro Fertilization?

Tube Reversal or In Vitro Fertilization?

Tubal Ligation

There are many methods of contraception and some of them are permanent. One of them is tubal ligation. You can have your tubes tied surgically in order to avoid getting pregnant. This is a permanent contraception measure and you should go for it only if you are absolutely sure that you don’t want to have babies ever again.  Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

However, we are fickle minded beings. There are many women who have gone for tubal ligation but have come back after a few years, wanting another child.

Tube Reversal or Vitro Fertilization

For such women, there are two options: tube reversal and in vitro fertilization. Until and unless you have complete information on both these procedures, you should not decide. Tube reversal or IVF is a common dilemma in those who have had their tubes tied but now want a baby.

Sometimes, it is just not ideal to go with what the doctor has to say because she may be biased. What do you do then? You research as much as possible and then make a choice.

Factors to Consider

While both options are good enough, there are a few factors that you need to consider in order to decide which the better option is. Among the factors are success rates and costs. Of course both the procedures are safe. Thus, you don’t have to worry about that. Here is more information about each to make things clear for you.

Success rate of tube reversal

Most women go for the tubal ligation reversal process in order to have a baby. Studies suggest that about 66% of the women who go for tube reversal become pregnant in the first year itself. However, not all of them go on to have a successful pregnancy.

The research has made it clear that out of the 66% of the women who got pregnant, only 50% will have a baby. 40% women will have a miscarriage and 10% will have an ectopic pregnancy. Thus, out of all the women who undergo tube reversal process, only 33% of the women will have a child and may even have more babies if they want to.

You should remember that these figures are approximate but you can take for granted that they are more or less close to the actual figures. You may have to opt for fertility pills to help you get pregnant, but whatever works!

Success rate of IVF

If you consider the IVF cycles in the United States, you will find that the success rate is around 37%. This means that out of all the women who go for an IVF cycle, only 37% will get pregnant. Once you count out all the miscarriages, you will see that the success rate is around 30% only.

The Costs

In vitro fertilization will cost you around double the tube reversal surgery.

Which Procedure to Go for?

If you go for IVF, you won’t need to undergo a surgery. Also, the chances of having an ectopic pregnancy will be minimal. You may have other fertility problems. These problems will not affect IVF.

This is a huge advantage. If you want more than one child, tube reversal is a better option. You will be relieved and you won’t have any guilty feelings either. Thus, the choice comes down to personal preference more than anything else.
