A miscarriage is defined as the loss of pregnancy within the first 24 weeks. It is always helpful to identify the basic factors that lead to miscarriage. Once a miscarriage starts, there is nothing to be done in order to stop it, but, in the future, certain treatments may be applied based on the causes. Miscarriages are usually the effect of the fetus not developing normally or having some severe uncorrectable problems. In this case, a miscarriage may mean avoiding giving birth to an abnormally born baby. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here
There are 4 common types of miscarriage.
This type of miscarriage occurs when a pregnant woman shows physical signs that she may experience a pregnancy loss. Any vaginal bleeding may be a physical sign of threatened miscarriage, the blood varying in quantity or color from woman to woman. This bleeding may occasionally be accompanied by pain, cramping or backache.
The real cause of the vaginal bleeding in this period is still unknown. However, it occurs in about 30 percent of pregnancies. There is some good news too – statistics show that about half of the women who had bleeding during early pregnancy will still go on and be able to give birth to a healthy baby.
It is known as spontaneous miscarriage, when the body has not finished expelling all pregnancy tissues. To prevent further pregnancy complications, like infections, the woman should try to relax while the doctor is closely monitoring her until all pregnancy tissue is expelled.
The missed miscarriage happens when the fetus is no longer alive, but the pregnancy still continues. Because there are no symptoms, the best way to diagnose it is by using ultrasound to see if the fetus is not growing anymore or if it has a heartbeat. Generally, a missed miscarriage requires a dilatation and curettage (D&C) to empty the womb.
This type of miscarriage happens when the egg is implanted and begins to develop outside the uterus, like in the fallopian tube. It is usually detected early, in the first five to ten weeks of pregnancy, and the sooner it is identified, the better, because ectopic pregnancy is considered a life-threatening situation. The only thing that can be done is to stop the evolution of the ectopic pregnancy.
All types of miscarriage may lead to psychological trauma and depression. Therefore, not only the physical condition of the patient should be taken into account, but also the psychological consequences of this loss. Be sure to take care of yourself and respect the grieving process after miscarriage.
