Water is an important part of every diet. It helps flush out toxins and keeps us healthy. It is also something we all need to stay hydrated. For these reasons, it is important that we spend quite a bit of time each day drinking water. However, for women who are pregnant, drinking water is critical for both the health of the mother and her baby. Claim Your 20 Free Pregnancy Tests – Click Here

How much Water do I Need?

Research shows that women who are pregnant should aim for drinking 64 ounces of water each day. Plus, you should add an 8-ounce cup for every hour you have light activity. Keep in mind that water is not the only fluid that you have to drink. For example, milk, juice and other items also help you reach your water intake levels.

In addition to taking in particular fluids, there are also some things you should avoid. Start by avoiding as much caffeine as possible. This include teas, coffee and soda that contains caffeine. When you are pregnant, you should stick to less than 200 mg per day.

Why do I need that Much Water?

One of the main reasons you need to increase your water intake while you are pregnant is because it helps to move nutrients around your body. This could mean that your baby is getting more nutrients when you are drinking this much water.

Along with nutrients, water can help decrease your chances of becoming dehydrated. This is especially important during the final trimester, when the baby is in need of more and more nutrients and water. Dehydration during this time could also lead to preterm labor and cause contractions to occur before you are ready to give birth.

Tips on Drinking More Water

For some women, drinking more water is challenging. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can do. Start by setting aside the amount of water you need to drink each day, first thing in the morning. Label your container so you know how often you should be drinking water. For example, by 10 am, you will need to drink a certain amount, and a second amount by noon. Continue this cycle throughout the entire day to make it easier to drink the water you need.

For those who do not enjoy the taste of water, try adding a bit of lemon or juice to it to make it taste better.  As before mentioned, you can also substitute other fluids for water, but this could increase your daily calorie intake.
