Hollywood is a very special place. Women there can get pregnant naturally, with no medical intervention, up through their 40’s, and sometimes even into their 50’s. There must be something about being a celebrity that offers unlimited fertility, right?
Of course, this is not true, but it’s what Hollywood would have us believe. There are so many celebs who get pregnant in their 40’s and even 50’s, but they don’t really talk about it. Of course, they talk about the “miracle of birth” and what a great “surprise” getting pregnant so late in life is, but we know, it’s really not that simple.
There haven’t been many celebs out there who speak out about fertility treatments, surrogates, or donor eggs, but it’s obvious that at least some of these celebs have to be using these things. The truth of the matter is, there really aren’t very many celebrities who have spoken up about the use of donor eggs. Although doctors agree that chances are slim to none of a woman becoming pregnant using her own eggs after age forty, and many experts agree that there have been ZERO documented cases of a woman giving birth using her own eggs after age 45. So, you do the math.
While we might not hear from the horse’s mouth that donor eggs are being used in Hollywood, let’s face it, it has to be happening. While some celebs, like Sarah Jessica Parker, and Nicole Kidman, have openly thanked their surrogates for carrying their babies, there are virtually no celebs who have stepped up and admitted to using donor eggs themselves.
The closest we get is Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross, who has spoken about donor eggs in general, but not admitting to using them herself. Kelly Preston had a baby at age 48, and experts suspect with almost 100 percent certainty that a donor egg was used in her case, but she hasn’t offered up the information herself.
You can’t blame celebs for not wanting all of their personal lives spread out there for the world to see. Infertility and the use of surrogates and/or donor eggs are very, very private matters. However, we do agree that it would make all of us feel much better to hear a celeb acknowledge these things.
By pretending that they all “miraculously” got pregnant at age 43, 45, 48, 50, etc.. many celebrities set up unrealistic expectations for women in the “real world”, and make them feel bad when they don’t experience the same successes. If more celebrities spoke up about these issues and created a dialogue, more regular women would not feel like they are inferior for not receiving the same results.
Keep this in mind the next time you see a magical pregnancy story out of Hollywood- there is likely a whole other side to the story that you are not seeing!
